Before you visit, it is a good idea to know what the park looks like and what area of the park you are going, here are some maps to help you in your planning.

First, start off with a map of the whole park. For a more detailed look, view one of these:

Directions

From D.C. to Front Royal entrance

  • Take I-495 to Interstate 66 West (exit 9)
  • Stay on I-66 for about 45 miles to Rt. 55 (exit 13)
  • take 55 west and follow the signs, about 12-15 miles

From D.C. to Thornton Gap entrance

  • Take I-495 to Interstate 66 West (exit 9)
  • Go west on I-66 about 22 miles
  • Get off on Rt. 15/29 toward Warrenton (exit 43)
  • Stay on Rt. 15/29 for about 13 miles
  • In Warrenton, take a right on Rt 211 west toward Sperryville and New Market
  • Rt. 211 goes right to the park, about 30 miles away

From Baltimore, MD

  • Take I-95 south to I-495
  • Go west on I-495 toward Virginia
  • Go west on I-66
  • Follow the directions for D.C.

From Dulles Airport

  • Take Rt 28 (Sully Rd.) south to I-66
  • Go west on I-66 and follow the directions from D.C.

From Richmond VA to Swift Run Gap entrance

  • Take I-64 west toward Charlottesvile
  • I-64 goes through the park at Rockfish Gap (exit 99) (about 80 miles)
